I really pushed myself on this project with setting up the colors for printing. There is a lot of over-printing on this one as well as experimenting with texture. Plus owls aren't that easy to draw! Jush shayin'...
Some printers shy away from jobs like this because the project demands extra care when mixing the colors and printing. My printer killed it on this job. And by "killed" I mean he went above and beyond with the printing and color matching. And when I say "stupid" I mean "stupid fresh".

This was inspired by their song "Minerva" and the album art for their latest release "Diamond Eyes". Minerva was the virgin goddess of poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, weaving, crafts, magic. She is often depicted with her sacred creature, an owl, which symbolizes her ties to wisdom. The owl is chewing on a rat that is biting down on a banner that reads "cuando el cofre se sacude y la aguja se parte vienen con migo rápidamente." There's a 20% DISCOUNT for any of you scholars that can translate it and figure out which Deftones song it's from. (Just type in the song title in the promo code box when placing your order.) The snake is there because I wanted to draw a snake - transforming from a tattoo into the real thing. And I drew the girl with the side of her head shaved cuz ladies like that make me swoon. A boy can dream, right?

The Goodfoot is proud to announce that The Art of Musical Maintenance, in it's 8th year, will open Thurs, Dec 1st, from 5pm-2:30 am and be up until Jan 21st. We will be displaying the newest installment of music posters from artists throughout the country. The artists in this show are as diverse as the music. Likewise, the artist's techniques vary as well (from hand drawn to computer generated design). There are over 50 artists, and around 300 posters.

Thanks to EVERYONE (and there were a ton of you) that dropped by the booth to chat. The best part is seeing you guys and just catching up, talking about music, ladies, bears, and art technique. Thanks to all the ladies for the hugs too. It was tough leaving San Diego. My heart hangs heavy now. If only I had one more day.

Walking through the convention center or the streets of Austin this week, it's hard to ignore the tape-spackled, staple-ridden posters, sounding their visual siren calls, trying to reel you in amidst the crowds and visual noise. As the world goes digital it's interesting to note how much tangible objects stand out. You can't hand someone a JPEG. You can't fold it up and put it in your pocket. And while much physical guerilla marketing has been supplanted by Facebook invites and Twitter hashtags, there is, as of yet, no Facebook invite that stays at the top of your inbox long enough to remind you how much you danced at a TV On The Radio show.

Harley Davidson painting walk-through

Painting walk-through for the Harley-Davidson show I was in.

Now that the show is done. I posted a WALK -THROUGH on how I painted the tank. I mostly did it for myself so I wouldn't forget how the first side was painted while I worked on the second side.

Included are pics of the spider bits I got during the whole process. Gruesome...

The Art of Rebellion is a one-night only event taking place on October 17, 2009 at LA Venue in the Chelsea arts district of New York City. Once again KIA, hired me to design posters for the 2009 Warped Tour. So stoked. This is the 2nd year working with KIA, and they hired me to do 2 posters instead of just 1.

KIA let me come up with the concept on these so I went with a comic book theme. TWTA reminded me of the romance comics from the 60's and SKSK reminded me of The Fantastic Four Kirby days. I wanted to be able to include the band members in the posters and have fun at the same time. This is also the first time I had to draw band likenesses. Not as easy as I thought. But I did my best with what they gave me.

The ONLY way to get these is at one of the shows. They’re FREE!!! So get on it.
